How to take into account the shelf life of cosmetics?

Care cosmetics should be not only effective but also safe. Draw an analogy with food - all of them sooner or later disappear and become unusable. FROM cosmetics the same way. In any cream, toner, serum and other products, they can easily multiply
harmful organisms. And they will multiply if you do not provide special protection!
Preservatives are such protection. Yes, yes, the very preservatives that undeservedly consider harmful. In fact, it is only thanks to preservatives that your cosmetics remain safe on for a long time. Preservatives inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms. Take them away - and any cosmetic product will become moldy and start to smell foul in a couple of days. So that there are even preservatives in organic and sustainable cosmetics. Without them, the remedy simply will not receive certification, because it will harm human health.
When developing cosmetics, different types of preservatives are used. They differ in origin (natural or synthetic) and mechanism of action. Some preservatives inhibit the development
molds, others destroy bacteria, others slow down the growth of yeast, etc. Set preservatives are always selected individually, depending on the composition of the product. It's very complicated a process that requires fundamental knowledge of the field of cosmetic chemistry.
We will not delve into the varieties of preservatives. It is important for us to understand first of all three things:
1. Preservatives do not harm the skin, but provide safety;
2. Any cosmetics that have a shelf life of more than a few days contain preservatives;
3. Preservatives cannot prevent disease-causing organisms forever - once their effect expires.
What happens if you use an expired cosmetics?
When preservatives stop "working", harmful bacteria and fungi become full-fledged owners. No, the product does not "go bad" instantly. The effect of preservatives decreases gradually, so that
an expired product may retain its decent appearance and flavor. However, harmful microorganisms already penetrate and begin to multiply. On contact with the skin, they break protective barrier and microbiome, causing many problems - from acne to dermatological
diseases.
If you do not want to face such consequences, do not use "delay"! Including it is unacceptable to apply, for example, an expired face cream on the hands or feet.
In addition, the use of expired cosmetics is not only harmful, but also useless. After the expiration storage means loses its useful properties. There is no need to expect a good effect - only harm.
Expiry date from the date of production
This period shows how long the product can remain safe in the form in which it is produced at the factory. In other words, how much preservatives can inhibit the growth of bacteria in
source environment. Usually the period from the date of production is several years. Often on packaging
print the release date of the product (month and year) and prescribe how old the product is.
Expiration date from the day of opening
This term is ignored by many. But it is very important! When you open a cosmetic, inside air enters. Also, many girls apply, for example, a cream from a jar with a finger - and through their hands into the product is penetrated by new microorganisms. The original environment is changing. Preservatives cannot resist "pests" as long as before, when the product was tightly packed manufacturer.
Therefore, the shelf life of cosmetics from the moment of opening is always less than from the date of production. For of this period there is a conventional designation - an open jar with numbers and a letter. For example, 6M (six months). This designation must be found on the box.
